Random awesome covers:
YOU GUYS. It’s The Bloggess‘ long-anticipated memoir! And look who’s on the cover! (In true Bloggess style, Jenny actually brought Hamlet von Schnitzel with her to a meeting with her publishers.) This book comes out April 12th, and I am so excited to read it. After reading this post, though, I’m thinking I might get it in audio. Here’s the blurb from Goodreads:
When Jenny Lawson was little, all she ever wanted was to fit in. That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father (a professional taxidermist who created dead-animal hand puppets) and a childhood of wearing winter shoes made out of used bread sacks. It did, however, open up an opportunity for Lawson to find the humor in the strange shame spiral that is her life, and we are all the better for it.
Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter are the perfect comedic foils to her absurdities, and help her to uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments-the ones we want to pretend never happened-are the very same moments that make us the people we are today.
Let’s Pretend This Never Happened is a poignantly disturbing, yet darkly hysterical tome for every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud. Like laughing at a funeral, this book is both irreverent and impossible to hold back once you get started.
If you don’t know who The Bloggess is, check out her website. I dare you to read one post without cracking up.
Again, I just have to say – YOU GUYS. I was shocked to find out a few weeks ago that Josh Bazell has another Peter Brown novel coming out February 8th! Wild Thing is a follow-up to Beat the Reaper, one of my favorite books of ALL TIME. Seriously, I cannot believe I didn’t know this sooner. Here’s the Goodreads blurb for Wild Thing:
It’s hard to find work as a doctor when using your real name will get you killed. So hard that when a reclusive billionaire offers Dr. Peter Brown, aka Pietro Brnwa, a job accompanying a sexy but self-destructive paleontologist on the world’s worst field assignment, Brown has no real choice but to say yes. Even if it means that an army of murderers, mobsters, and international drug dealers-not to mention the occasional lake monster-are about to have a serious Pietro Brnwa problem.
Facing new and old monsters alike, Dr. Brnwa’s story continues in this darkly funny and lightning-paced follow up to Josh Bazell’s bestselling debut.
My hope is that this sequel is just as hilarious, heartbreaking, and over-the-top as the first book. (Click here to read my review of Reaper.)
Random awesome videos:
This beautiful short film comes to you from photographer and blogger Garret Murray, who also plays the lead role.
This next video is about designer Stefanie Posavec, who hand-draws data charts of famous novels.
You’ve probably already seen this last video since it recently went viral, but in case you missed it, here’s The Joy of Books:
That’s it for now. Have a great week, everyone!
