Happy New Year! +2013 Reading Wrap-up

Happy New Year!  I hope 2014 is a year of many blessings for you and yours!

In 2013, I read 45 books for pleasure, which is about on par with previous years.  (In 2012 I read 51, and in 2011 I read 45.)  Here are some more of my 2013 reading stats:

  • 11,604 pages read (according to Goodreads)
  • Longest book = Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers, 549 pages
  • 12 audiobooks, including 5 nonfiction titles
  • 17 new series started
  • 22 never-before-read authors
  • Breakdown of my ratings:
    • 8 books = 5 Stars
    • 11 books = 4.5 Stars
    • 18 books = 4 Stars
    • 6 books = 3.5 Stars
    • 1 book = 3 Stars
    • 1 book = 1.5 Stars

This year my average number of pages per book stayed about the same as in 2012, though it’s still significantly down from 2011 due to my increased audiobook listening. (Audiobooks are not counted as pages read.)  As in 2012, audiobooks comprise all of my nonfiction reading for the year.

But, in contrast to 2012, my rating distribution for 2013 returned to normal with my 4 and 4.5 star ratings largely outnumbering my 5 star ratings.  The mass of 5 star books in 2012 seems to have been an anomaly.

Once again, my aim for the new year will be to read roughly 50 books.  What is your 2014 reading goal?
